At first, Republicans said that impeachment testimony about the Ukraine call amounted to indirect hearsay. They said that they’d believe it when there was direct evidence from someone who was involved firsthand.
Now that direct testimony is here, Republicans like Lindsey Graham won’t even look at it.
Gordon Sondland, U.S. Ambassador To The European Union, was the actual guy who told the Ukraine to that U.S. military aid was being withheld until opened investigations into the 2016 election and Joe Biden.
This is not hearsay. Sondland is the actual guy who exerted pressure on Ukraine. There is nothing more direct than that. And because there’s no way to dispute this man’s testimony, Lindsey Graham is simply ignoring it.
As a member of the House of Representatives, he has a responsibility to review the evidence. Sure, he’s entitled to disagree but to simply refuse to consider direct evidence that paints his allies in a bad light undermines the legitimacy of the entire government. The only word I can think to describe this is corruption. Is there a better word? How would you describe this?
Sure, he can say that Sondland misunderstood President Trump’s intentions and went rogue. But that’s not what Graham is doing. He is refusing to even hear basic facts. He is refusing to even hear direct, first-hand testimony that a high-ranking member of the Trump administration asked for something illegal.
